Mango Habanero Salsa


This sweet and spicy salsa is loaded with fresh ingredients, fresh flavors, and textures. This unique salsa is the best seasonal salsa to serve as a dip or to serve as a side to meals. 


This homemade salsa comes together easily in minutes. The following ingredients are required to make it:


Mangoes - Ripe, sweet, and firm mangoes work great. Any mango variety can be used. 


Habanero pepper - this pepper is the star of this recipe giving the spicy kick,


Tomatoes - the sweetness and acid help in balancing the flavors.


Cucumber - cucumber has a cooling effect and is great to add when using hot peppers


Onion - a little of aromatic onion gives flavors 


Garlic - enhances flavors as this also has aromatic molecules in it. 


Cilantro - this herb boosts the flavors 


Salt - brings out the flavor.


Lime juice - the flavor enhancer and balances the heat. 



Is this salsa very spicy?


This is a sweet and spicy salsa. The habanero peppers are spicy peppers. Scoville scale is a measure of the spicyness or “heat” of the pepper in terms of Scoville Heat Units (SHU). Habanero pepper has a range of 100000 to 350000 units and it sits below the ghost peppers and Carolina reaper peppers. 


This recipe uses two habanero peppers and its heat is balanced by salt, lime juice, and sweet mangoes. The added tomorrow’s and cucumber also helps in balancing the heat. With tons of mangoes added, the heat is well balanced. In this recipe, I removed the seeds and pith of one habanero pepper and used another whole pepper. This salsa is medium spicy. To further lower the heat, the seeds and pith can be removed completely. 



A note on handling this pepper:


Habanero is a very spicy pepper. It is important to take care while handling this pepper so that you are not hurt. Accidental rubbing of eyes would result in higher burning sensation. This can be avoided by wearing gloves while handling the pepper, and also by washing the hands and equipment used for processing repeatedly with soap.


What to serve this salsa with?


Of course with chips! Chips and salsa are divine for a snack or appetizer and the flavors of this salsa is amazing and fits perfectly. But it is not limited to appetizers . Serve it with meals too. Tacos, quesadillas, or burrito bowls become phenomenal when served with this sweet spicy salsa.


Can this recipe doubled? And how to store it?


This recipe is easy to double or triple, or cut down in half, as per your requirements. Leftover, if any, could be refrigerated for a day. I do not recommend freezing this salsa as the textures would be lost.

Ingredients

Tomatoes - 1 and 1/4 cups
Cucumber - 1/2 cup, chopped
Onion - 1/8 cup, chopped
Mango chunks - 1/4 cup
Ripe mangoes - 2 cups, finely chopped
Cilantro - 2-3 tbsp
Lime juice - 4 tbsp
Habanero peppers - 2
Salt - 1 and 3/4 tsp


Method

Add the tomatoes, cucumber, diced mangoes (1/4 cup, onions, and habanero pepper to a food processor and pulse it.


Add salt, cilantro, and lime juice. Pulse once again.


Pour it onto the bowl with chopped mangoes.


Mix and serve with chips.
