Diwali Sweets and Snacks Board

Diwali (aka Deepavali), The Festival of Lights, is one our major festivals and is celebrated in a grand manner. We light lamps all around the home spreading warmth and cheer.

The first thing we do early in the morning is take an oil bath, wear new clothes, get blessings from elders, have a little Deepavali Lehyam ( and here is quick one), and most importantly enjoy the special sweets and snacks made for this occasion with friends and family. There is always an elaborate feast on this day. We visit friends, family and share gifts both fun goods as well as edible gifts.

Sweets snd snacks are called as ‘bakshanam’in our home. Everyone’s favorites will be made, sometimes there are new recipes added to the list, or one is replaced, end result is we have lots of sweets and snacks to munch on. When we share with friends and families, we always look forward to our favorites from other families gifts… it’s just like how a kid opens and enjoys the goody bag. For the next ten days we used to have lot if fun filled tasty snacks. A lot of memories built around this festival.

Back home, mom makes so many varieties and thinking about that here is a board I made - Diwali snack board with lots of yummy treats. I love the traditional Whole Wheat Halwa, Okkorai, and Ma Ladoo too! Whole wheat halwa and okkorai are my favorites and learned them from my mom (most of my learning). These amazing traditional recipes bring in the celebration settings in the air to have maximum fun.

This board has the following:

Dry Fruits and Nuts

These are always great to snack on and are amazing Diwali edible gifts.

This is a simple and easy sweet that is made with almonds and ricotta cheese. This can be made in under 30 minutes and grab the recipe here.

Gulab Jamun

Thus deep fried milk solid balls that are soaked in flavored sugar syrup is one of our family favorite and is made often in our home for any occasion.

Rasmalai

Another family favorite which is a traditional Bengali sweet. We love the traditional flavor though we make so many variations of this often.

Kesar Rabdi is a popular dessert and we love it as duck as well as in a fun way. Make it a dessert Pani puri to make your Diwali party or celebration more fun. Check here for more detailed recipe.

Manoharam Urundai

Thaenguzhal or manoharam urundai is one of my favorite one from childhood. I love this traditional sweet so much that it is hard to stop with one.

Boondi Ladoo

Boondi ladoo is popular sweet from India and besan is used to make boondis which is the mixed with sugar syrup and rolled into ladoos. These are perfect for all festivals.

This simple ribbon pakoda is made with soy flour instead of besan which is the traditional way. Check here for the recipe.

Almond Flour Thaenkuzhal

This is made with almond flour and is not spicy, hence kids would love this. These are made during many festivals.

This is an amazing snack made with besan and is great with a cup of chai.

Chivda

Simple and easy snack made with thin poha.

I am linking this to Blogging Marathon, Sundays on Silverado, Happiness is Homemade, and Wonderful Wednesday.

Try these delicious sweets and snacks, leave your feedback here, and have a fun and safe Diwali!

Happy Diwali!
