Masala Pav

Masala Pav is another tasty food from the streets of Mumbai. Street food doesn't mean only pani puri (which everyone loves), these buns are equally delicious. This is very simple to make yet very tasty that you would want more. We love this in our home that we make it often. Whenever there is a time constraint to make anything, this is one of the unanimous choice for us to have a delicious and satisfying meal.

Sauté the onions, peppers, and tomatoes with spices in butter/oil and toast it with pav/buns drizzled with garlic butter - mouth will be watering reading this. It is delicious and wont disappoint in flavors.

I am linking this recipe Srivalli's Blogging Marathon 121 - Indian Street Foods. I have posted Mumbai famous Maggi Sandwich and Bangalore Style Masal Puri for this event. Try these out and enjoy the mouth-watering street foods.

Ingredients

Pav - 4
Butter 2-3 tbsp
Garlic - 2, finely chopped
Cilantro - 3-4 tsp
Onions - 1/2 cup, finely chopped
Bell pepper - 1/2 cup, finely chopped
Tomatoes - 1.5 cups, finely chopped
Oil - 1 tbsp
Cumin - 1/2 tsp
Salt - 3/4 tsp
Turmeric - 1/8 tsp
Garam masala - 1/4 tsp
Pav bhai masala - 3/4 tsp
Red chili powder - 1/2 tsp
Green chili - 1 or finely chopped
Ginger - 1/2 tsp, finely minced

Method

Melt the butter, add one clove of finely chopped garlic, and cilantro. Mix and set aside.

In a cast-iron pan, heat butter and/or oil. Add the cumin, followed by onions, ginger, garlic, and green chili. Saute for about 3 minutes. Add the chopped bell pepper and sauté for 2 minutes.

Add the chopped tomatoes. Fry for a minute. Add the salt, turmeric, garam masala, chili powder, and pav bhaji masala. Mix thoroughly. With a masher, mash the entire mixture and continue to cook till the moisture evaporates. Add cilantro and mix.

Slice the pav, drizzle with garlic butter. Set aside half of the quantity of the masala. To the masala on the pan, invert the pav with butter side down and continue to toast for 2 minutes. Drizzle more garlic butter on top. Swirl the pav such that the entire masala in gathered under it. Flip it to toast the other side of the pav. Toast for a minute. Fold and transfer to a plate.

Sprinkle cilantro and serve immediately.
