Chickoo/Sapota Milkshake

This chickoo milkshake is a healthier version without ice cream, but with the same creamy and smooth consistency. For a vegan version, use plant based milk and sweetener (if needed).This is a super easy recipe too!

Chickoo or sapota is a tasty tropical fruit. This fruit with earthy colored flesh is very tasty and is loaded with vitamin A, C, and dietary fiber. If the fruit is unripe, it may have an astringent taste, but it goes away as the fruit ripens. Peel or not peel is an option, I love this in any form.

Sometimes, the sapota you get in the market may be very sweet and sometimes moderate. I can spot fresh chickoo fruits once in a blue moon here and they are really expensive. Frozen chickoo is available off late and we satisfy our craving of this fruit with this healthy milkshake made with the amazing fruit. This was having moderate sweetness and hence used a couple of tablespoons of sugar. Adjust the taste as per the fruit you have. Instead of sugar, maple syrup or jaggery powder can also be used and tastes great. 

When I grew up, milkshakes did not have any ice creams. With ice creams, this is more creamy and a fun dessert. But, if you want to cut down the calories and prefer a low fat healthy snack or meal option, this chickoo milkshake is a great option. The creaminess comes from the frozen fruit used in this recipe. Whole milk should be used for best results. This may sound like a smoothie, but this is thicker like a milkshake than a smoothie.

 To make an ice cream version, use a couple of scoops of this Chickoo/Sapota Ice cream. Vanilla ice cream can also be used. Both the versions work great for this milkshake! Add in the blender or top with some ice cream and serve. Kids would love to have topped with a little icecream.

This tropical fruit, though delicious to munch as a snack, can be whipped into amazing recipes. Sapota kesari is one such dish. When your tree produces maximum yield, it best to make this dessert and share with family and friends.

Makes 3-4 serving

Chickoo - 12oz., frozen
Milk - 2 cups
Sugar - 3 tbsp
Ice cream - 2 scoops (optional)


Add everything to blender and process until smooth.

Pour into glasses and serve immediately
