Roasted Garbanzos

Roasted chickpeas or garbanzos are protein-packed snacks. They are crisp with a nice crunch that gives complete satisfaction for crunchy snack cravings. They can be topped on salads or soups too. These are traditionally made by deep-frying. Roasting them in the oven gives a few benefits over deep frying. Very little oil is used when compared to deep frying. Also, we need to multi-task most of the days, and dedicating time completely for deep frying may be difficult. Roasting it in the oven helps us save time and complete a couple of more tasks that we are always lined up with. Just stir every 10 minutes, that's all. With minimal prep time, a delicious and crunchy snack will be ready. Pack it in small containers or pouches to take it on the go. This goes perfectly with a cup of coffee or tea.

I am posting this for Srivalli's Bake-A-Thon 2020.

Chickpeas - 1 cup
Salt - 1.5 tsp
Cayenne - 1 tsp
Turmeric - 1/4 tsp
Oil - 2 tsp

Soak the garbanzo beans overnight or for 6-8 hours. Rinse a couple of times and drain all the water. Allow it to dry for 2 hours by spreading on a towel or paper towel so that there is no trace of water. Preheat the oven to 400 degrees F. Add it to a bowl along with salt, turmeric, oil, and cayenne. Mix and spread as a single layer on a silicone lined baking sheet. Bake for 40-45 minutes with intermittent stirring every 10 minutes. Remove from the oven, cool, and serve.

Store in an airtight container.
